Total business logistics costs were $1.34 trillion in 2008. Inventory carrying costs fell 13 percent and accounted for most of the 2008 decline in logistics costs. Transportation costs were up only 2 percent over 2007 levels, not enough to offset the steep decline in inventory carrying costs.
