Robert W. (Doc) Hall, Editor Emeritus

Robert Hall is Professor Emeritus of the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. He is a founding member of the Association for Manufacturing Excellence, and now the editor-in-chief of the association’s publication, Target. His lean operations experience dates to the late 1970s. Doc was one of the first examiners for the U. S. Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. He has been a judge for the Pace Award (for innovation by auto suppliers) since 1995, and has reviewed applicants for Industry Week’s annual 10 Best Plants competition since it began in 1990. Dr. Hall first book was Zero Inventories in 1983. He is working on another one titled Compression that proposes business system changes to meet 21st century challenges. Before joining academia, Dr. Hall worked for Eli Lilly and Union Carbide. His undergraduate degree is in chemical engineering; his graduate degrees are in operations management.

Lea A.P. Tonkin, Executive Editor

Lea A. P. Tonkin works with authors on article development; she also writes articles for editorial coverage of AME programs, in addition to feature articles. Lea has served as Co-Editor for AME’s newsletter (print and online) and as AME annual conference marketing chair, contributed to a variety of business periodicals, served as a community festival marketing chair, and has worked with clients on communications projects as marketing manager and writer. Her publishing work includes five years as Senior Editor of Purchasing World magazine, News Editor of Plant Engineering magazine, and Business Editor for the Paddock Publications daily newspapers near Chicago. A former member of the McHenry County (IL) Job Training Partnership Act Private Industry Council, Lea lives in Woodstock, IL.

JoAnn Weltzenfeld, Production Editor

JoAnn Weitzenfeld oversees the production of the magazine, development of some advertisements and editorial features, including proofreading and editing. She has a BE in Education from Northeastern University (IL), taught in the Chicago Public schools for 11 years, and has been with AME and Target since 1986. She now lives in Arlington Heights, IL.

Karen Wilhelm, Contributing Editor

Karen Wilhelm writes articles on current developments in lean thinking, and companies on their lean journeys. Karen was a member of the team at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers that began a growing collaboration between SME and AME with SME's co-sponsorship of the AME Annual Conference. With 20 years experience in SME's publications area, she has a broad knowledge of the manufacturing industry and its growing implementation of lean. Karen was the founding editor of SME's e-newsletters, "Lean Directions," and "Six Sigma Quality in Manufacturing." In addition to working as a freelance writer, she is an officer in SME Chapter One in Detroit, MI. Karen also writes about lean in her blog, Lean Reflections at http://leanreflect.blogspot.com.

Terrence Suttle, Web Designer/Web Developer

Terrence Suttle oversees all AME websites, including www.AMETarget.org, as well as the information technology infrastructure for the association. He’s worked as a graphic designer for packaging and advertising, computer continuing education instructor and project manager. He has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from American State University Evanston, WY
